About

Hi, I am Tönjes.

I currently study the Bachelor’s degree IT Systems Engineering at the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) in Potsdam, Germany (right near Berlin). At university, I have chosen to predominantly do coursework on algorithms and theoric computer science, low level computing and operating systems as well as networks and cybersecurity—in addition to the obligatory what-it-takes-to-become-a-software-engineer courses, of course.

Last year, I spent one semester as a TA for mathematics, teaching the new students about the fundamentals of notation and proofs in mathematical analysis, logic and linear algebra.

Due to HPI’s focus on practical exercises, I have completed multiple projects, self-organised using agile development frameworks.

Outside of university, my interests extend particularly to game development.

As you have probably seen, I showcase some of my projects from in and out of university here on the main page.

On the side, I am currently a working student at GIZ in Berlin. While the GIZ gGmbH is primarily a non-profit organisation active in local education and refugee integration projects, we also run a FOSS development team within it. The organisation utilises a fleet of managed devices running our OS patches and software on Ubuntu which synchronise all employee activity to our in-house server via our API in order to allow for perfect device-interchangeability.
In short: any employee can sit down at any work station, sign in with their SSO credentials and have all files, programs and program configurations available and be logged into all necessary accounts. And that is running entirely on free and open-source, self-hosted software!
